If wide, open spaces, million-dollar views on your morning commute, few neighbors and an enormous sense of privacy are important, and a long commute, lack of community amenities or services like grocery stores, restaurants or dry cleaners aren't, then you might want to put Glade Park on your list of places to look when you're searching for your next home.
Glade Park is a huge area above Colorado National Monument with a long ranching history. On the east side, it extends to Little Park Road, and to Utah on the west side. While the main road is paved, there are miles and miles of gravel roads and access to public lands.
The elevation is a couple thousand feet higher than the Grand Valley, so it's typically cooler in the summer. Although it can be colder in the winter, it can also be warmer during those winters when the Grand Valley is experiencing the dreaded winter inversion.
There is a small convenience store on Glade Park, along with a post office, a community center, a church (which meets in the community center) and a volunteer fire department building, which hosts outdoor movies in the summer.
There are only a few ways to get to Glade Park, and they all involve driving up a twisty road next to spectacular canyons. There are two different points from Rim Rock Drive in Colorado National Monument where drivers can turn to find the area, and Glade Park can also be accessed from Little Park Road to the east. Although Realtors who are trying to sell a Glade Park house may say that it's 20 minutes from downtown Grand Junction, that could be a bit of a stretch, especially in the winter after dark.
